Cabinet approves removal of Nawaz’s name from ECL when he Signals surety bond

A subcommittee of the federal cabinet will meet again at 9:30pm after National Accountability Bureau officials compared the removal of Nawaz Sharif’s name in the no-fly list in a meeting Tuesday morning.

Last month, the prior three-time prime minister, who’s dealing with a bleeding disease last month, was granted bail by the Lahore High Court (LHC), although the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended his seven-year jail-term on medical reasons.

His medics say Nawaz has to be flown abroad for treatment as his illness remains precarious. The Sharif family has asked the Interior Ministry to eliminate Nawaz’s name in the Exit Control List (ECL), so that he might be flown into the United Kingdom.

Federal Law Minister Dr Farogh Naseem presided over the assembly of the cabinet’s subcommittee at Islamabad where it deliberated within the application of PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif looking for removal Nawaz’s name in the ECL.

The subcommittee also summoned NAB officials into the meeting.The Punjab government maintained from the assembly that the health of former premier was stressing and he had immediate treatment.The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) appears to be split on the matter.

Some ruling party leaders are said to be opposing removal of Nawaz’s name in the ECL because they think it could be construed as defeat of this government’s accountability narrative.

Meanwhile, others think Nawaz’s departure would be politically benefit the authorities the way in which the PML-N authorities had profited by sending former military ruler Pervez Musharraf abroad for treatment.

According to sources, even if no decision is reached, then the subcommittee can refer the matter to your cabinet.
