EU to Supply Pakistan technical assistance in implementation of FATF plan

According to the media statement released at the finish of 10th semester of the European Union-Pakistan Joint Commission at Brussel, either side emphasised the importance of the implementation of FATF Action Plan from Pakistan.

The Paris-based Financial Action Task Force said in October that Pakistan has until February to enhance its counter-terror financing operations based on an internationally agreed action plan, or face action against it.Meanwhile, both sides appreciated the signing up of the EU–Pakistan Strategic Engagement Plan (SEP) at June 2019 and voiced commitment because of the early and full implementation involving the establishment of a Safety Dialogue, working towards a comprehensive dialogue on migration and freedom and farther expanding relations in the areas of connectivity, climate change and energy, and education and civilization, and science and technology.

The Joint Commission was co-chaired around the EU side by Mr Gunnar Wiegand, Managing Director for Asia and the Pacific from the European External Action Service and around the Pakistan side by Mr Noor Ahmed, Secretary of Economic Affairs Division (EAD).

Inside the area of trade, implementation of GSP Plus, problems hampering trade and investment, and improving the company climate remained the focus of negotiations. On development cooperation, the parties appreciated the encouraging progress of ongoing activities and exchanged perspectives and priorities regarding cooperation beyond 20 20.

The parties discussed different aspects of migration management, emphasized that the importance of the full and efficient implementation of this EU–Pakistan Readmission Agreement (EURA), and underlined that the Re-admission Case Management System (RCMS) is of top importance in this regard.

Both parties undertook to contain the upcoming political dialogue in Islamabad that might contribute towards the EU-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue at High Representative/Foreign Minister degree in Brussels.
