Public Sector Development Program, CPEC among Asad Umar’s top priorities as he takes over planning ministry

“About coming into the cabinet, I always utilized to say that when the mindsets of PM Imran Khan and me get aligned at one stage, I’d come back to the cabinet.

Speaking about his priorities as the minister for planning and special initiative, Umar said the planning, monitoring and implementation of Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) could be a major task alongside the implementation of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), that could be entering its next phase.

“The initial phase of this CPEC, Including major infrastructure projects, have already been finished or about to be finished, so we are moving to the next phase of it at which industrial components could be built, alongside job Has to Be done in agriculture and social sector,” said UmarThe former finance minister said that early indications of economic recovery have started to appear.

“After we get from the catastrophe, the ministry of planning and development would play a important role in fostering economic development and creating job opportunities for the youth”He added that as fiscal space increases, the growth spending would also grow.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led federal government decided on Monday to get back Asad Umar from the federal cabinet, together with senior PTI leader and former finance minister Asad Umar coming back as minister for planning and special initiative.

She said that a notification in this regard will be issued shortly.Months back Umar stop the federal cabinet, saying that the PM wanted him to take more as electricity ministry but he did not think that it was the ideal move.

“As part of a cabinet reshuffle, PM wanted that I take the energy ministry portfolio instead of finance. But, I have obtained his approval to never take any cabinet position. I ardently believe Imran Khan is your best hope for Pakistan and inshallah will make a Naya Pakistan,” Umar tweeted April 18 after stepping down as finance minister.
